I met with a woman that replied by email to my ad "Room for Rent". She only stated that she needed a place without carpet and really needed to get out of the house she was presently in. She informed me that my laundry soap and dryer sheets are toxic to her along with everything that has a scent and she covered them with plastic bags. I had a candle on a warmer when she came to look at the room and she never mentioned anything and she was not wearing her surgical mask. While I was at work, she entered my bedroom and put down 100% cotton rugs all over my carper (even under furniture and in the closet) without my permission. She also came with a huge de-humidifier because she has to have the entire house at less than 40% humidity. She also had a large air purifier she had to use because she stated that my Oreck air purifiers are toxic to her because they have ionizers. She has told me that I cannot dye my hair with ammonia formulas, use candles, air fresheners, or wet swiffers. She spends at least 5 hours in the kitchen every night preparing her food and juices for the next day. Her machinery is so loud that I cannot sit in my living room and watch TV. I feel as if I am renting a room from her because that is where I live with my two cats and take-out food every night. Can I evict her and if so, how soon. She entered a contact on false pretenses. Do I have to return her unused rent and deposit?
I have put most things back and removed the rugs from my bedroom carpet. The lease does not state anything about her toxic problems or that she has control of my house – only the bedroom and shared bathroom. I have tried talking to her with no avail, so I have left letters for her that explain my position in detail. I did tell her that I would not be renewing the lease.
